In the video for Russian Roulette by Rihanna the transitions and effects are extremely effective. Although the content is not what we are looking for the quality of the transitions used is extremely high.
This is one of the transitions, where there is a very smooth fade in from one scene to another. It works extremely well and is done in keeping with tone of the slow but powerful music.
This is a scene from Love the Way you Lie of the two actors against the wall, we have Incorporated this into our music video. We decided to use this is our video because, if done right it can look very prfessional. It gives off a passionate dramtic love from the actors. It also matches to a line of our lyrics 'So she throws him at the wall and kisses burn like fire'.
This is one of the black and white shoots that is very simple but very dramatic. Just having the couple hugging works so well and you can see the love between them, in the girls eyes. In our music video i would like to use something like this and it is simple and easy to do.

I think this looks very professional and clever. This is because when it splits into a cross it shows four boxes i believe this is showing four sides of the story, which works veyr well, as keeps the viewer interested.

However in mine and Sophie's music video we also will use flashbacks. Here is a flash back from Rihanna to a speeding car with bright head lights. The flashbacks in this video work really well they flick straight away, the cutting is very effective. By using flashbacks it makes the video more dramatic and powerful especially with the choice of song.

The band Oasis are a perfect example for the black and white effect that Sophie and I are going for. Their video The Importance of Being Idle, is a great example.
The entire video is in black and white, this shows Sophie and myself how it would work and if it would be effective. Oasis's music video is based on a funnel and the build up before it. It is based in the 1960's and you can see the difference in times how things were between the clothing and the streets. Emotion is clearly shown throughout this video, which is obviously as it is a funnel, this is the high level of emotion we want our characters to show and display. As we believe the more emotion the more dramatic of a video.

The quality that this has been made to is extremely high, it is very impressive. The story line for Rihanna's video is based on a couple like ours, however our video is not a depressing. There video will hopefully be similar to ours though with the story, as they have happy and sad times and that is what we want to acheive with ours. I would love to be able to make a video like this, however the resources that we have are not as complex and professional as what they had to make Rihanna's video.

It is especially essential in using something similar in our video. It shows the male actor angry and upset with himself. Again this would be used in our black and white sad scenes, if done correctly this will look very realistic and show a great deal of emotion. By showing the emotion the viewer will feel connected with the couple.
Lastly this scene from Love the Way you Lie is about the girl walking away from her boyfriend, it could represent that they are over in some way, by the female shutting the door. Moreover i think using this or something similar in our music video shows so much emotion, and i believe the more emotion shown in the video the more effective and professional it will look.
Another video we looked at was Eamon- F**k it (I don't want you back). This video included the colour and black and white scenes that we wanted to use in our video. I believe this video shows what we are trying to achieve in our music video, by showing the element of a break up and looking back at the memories.

This is the last shot of the video, which just emphasises the love and passion between the couple. Leaving it like this you are unaware if they get back together, which leaves an element of supsense. In our music video we will end ours like this, with a memory scene as it is more dramatic, especially this close up.

Cna you put some examples up here about the video Russian Roulette. it is all very well saying the transitions are effective. What transitions? When? why are they so good?
